A 69 year old man, Mahama Mustapha from cow lane in Accra has retired after 27 years of service as the grounds man at the Accra sports Stadium.
In an interview with Sportsniteleaks editor, Enoch Worlanyo Wallace, Mr Mahama narrated his story from how his football career ended before he became a grounds man and how his commitment spared him on throughout his service for the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Mr. Mahama recounted how he worked diligently and obliged to instructions given to him by his employers and was touted as a difficult person by the media. “That is the reason why most of the time, you the press men said am harsh but am not harsh” he said.
The former Akotex player expressed his excitement for training the likes of Karim Alhassan and William Amamoo as ball boys who eventually became the captain of Hearts of Oak and Black Stars keeper respectively.
He was awarded twice for his hard work and commitment by the NSA and another from the Ghana Football Association after the 2014/2015 premier league season.
Mr. Mahama is married to a wife and nine children but his condition is not too good.
