Andre Ayew becomes 3rd Ghanaian most expensive signing in EPL



Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew became the record signing for West Ham United after joining the Hammers on a £20.5 million transfer from Swansea City.

The Ghanaian international crossed carpet after just one season with Swansea City.

The 26-year-old signed a four-year deal with the London Club to make him the most expensive player at the team.

Ayew is expected to partner French international and former Marseille teammate Dimitri Payet as well as Senegalese international Dafra Sakho. The Black Stars deputy captain will be hoping to replicate his impressive performance at Swansea when the new season begins.

The player meanwhile becomes the third most expensive Ghanaian signing in the English Premier League after Michael Essien and Abdul Baba Rahman. Essien joined Chelsea from Olympique Lyon for a fee worth £24million in 2005.

Rahman on the other hand made a sensational move from Augsburg to Chelsea in an amount believed to be £21million. Andre Ayew’s younger brother Jordan Ayew also signed for Aston Villa in a transfer fee of £12million from French Club Lorient last season.

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan also became Sunderland’s record signing with a £13million transfer from Rennes in 2010.Ex-Ghana international Tony Yeboah joins the list following his £3.4 million move from German Club Eintracht Frankfurt to Leeds United in 1995.

Former Ghana midfielder Alex Nyarko also joined Everton from Lens for £4.5M in the year 2000. Black Stars winger Christian Atsu also joined Chelsea from FC Porto for a fee worth £3.5 million.
