Head Coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant believes he will need a bit of luck if he is to win the AFCON 2017 Tournament with Ghana.
After winning their first two matches in the group stage, the team has booked their place in the quarterfinals stage but will play their final game group game against Egypt on Wednesday and will be looking forward to maintain their 100% record.
The Ghana Football Association has charged the former Chelsea manager to win the trophy after failing to lift the trophy in Equatorial Guinea. Ghana will be seeking to end its 34-year-old AFCON drought.
Avram won the FA Cup with Portsmouth after Sulley Muntari converted a late penalty against Manchester United. He replaced Jose Mourinho at Chelsea but failed to lift the Champions League trophy against Manchester United in Moscow.
But the former Portsmouth manager believes for him to win the AFCON, he needs a bit of luck.
“This team and I, if I may say, have achieved a lot of things. I went to the final with Chelsea, where we were the better side, but lost on penalties.”
“We were the better side last AFCON, everybody saw, but we lost on penalties. I came to the F.A Cup final with Portsmouth, against Chelsea, and we lost.”
“So I think I’m lucky to have come this far, but I need a little bit more luck, but on the football side we did a very good job in all these tournaments.”
“I hope that we do the same job here, but I know it will not be easy to come to the same stage. But if we come to this stage it will be different.”
