Former chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), J.Y. Appiah says the head coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant is the only person to determine which player plays for the National team.
Avram Grant released a 23 man squad with the inclusion of Inusah Musah of Hearts of Oak and Emmanuel Ocran of Wa All Stars but will be closely monitored by coach. Many have raised questions on why the coach chose to call up only two local players and will be closely monitored but the astute football administrator believes it is only the head coach who determines who plays for the national team.
“I disagree if people analyze and say the local players can’t play for the Black Stars because selection of players into the national team is the sole duty of the coach.” J. Y Appiah told Asempa FM
“The coach did not call up most if the local players but I believe they are still Black Stars materials. When the minister was demanding that the coach should use the local against Rwanda, we all witnessed that he called some of them to beef up the team so if they weren’t good enough he wouldn’t have called them.
“Every player can play the Black Stars but it is just a matter of catching the eye of the coach. He has his own plan and he doesn’t want to disorganize his plans and we know the AFCON is coming up in no time. The coach has worked with the foreign based players and he knows their style of play so he will prefer using them all the time but with the local players, he hardly watch their matches so that may be the reason why he is not calling most of the local players.” He added.
