Former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has launched a scathing attack on head coach of the Black Stars Avram Grant indicating he was never the coach the country needed.
Grant was charged by the Ghana Football Association to end the 35 years trophy drought but Cameroon who defeated Egypt to clinch the trophy defeat the Black Stars by 2:0 at the semifinals stage of the competition.
The team was hoping to win a bronze medal in the third and fourth place fixture against Burkina Faso but the team against lost to the Burkinabes by a lone goal to nothing finishing the competition on the fourth position.
After the coach released his final 23 man squad for ahead of the tournament, many football doubted if the players will fight on to win the trophy but the board member of Hearts of Oak believes Grant was never the coach Ghana needed.
“I have personally complained time and again about this man that he was not the type of coach we need at this time.” He told JoySports. “He himself, I don’t know what to say whether it is laziness or whatever is it I can’t talk about it.
“You don’t see the sort of life you see in other coaches during the tournament. He is always outside the country and he hardly knows the history of the players.”
“The first thing I will do is to change the coach before I look at the players and I will let the incoming coach take his time to study them individually and drive us.
“If the FA influencing the players into the team then I will get worried and as I speak to you I don’t have any evidence to prove that but if they do influence either the coach or whoever does the selection then that is very bad and I am not saying that is not possible it can be possible.” He added.
The Black Stars will have to start preparing for the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.
