A member of the 2014 Commission of Enquiry and a Legal Practitioner, Moses Foh-Amoaning believes the Black Stars preparations for the AFCON has been very poor and he is therefore called for the cancellation of the 3rd place winning bonus of $12,500 for the Black Stars at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars defeated Bunyokdor by 2:0 in a trial match in Dubai ahead the competition which kicks off this weekend at Gabon.
“I am very surprised the management couldn’t get a competitive match the players to play ahead of the tournament.
“Their preparations for the tournament have been very poor. Instead of them to focus on how they will prepare enough they were rather fighting about the bonuses with the ministry which is never right.
However, the astute law lecturer and ex-boss of the Ghana Boxing Association believe the budget doesn’t motivate the players to win the trophy since they are paid bonuses for even 3rd place.
According to him, it would have been more prudent if the team had been promised a sum of money if they win the trophy instead of paying them huge sums of money at every stage till the finals.
“The bonus structure for the Black Stars is not motivating enough. How do you pay $12,500 for 3rd place? The players will not be too keen on winning the trophy because they know they can amass up to $12,500 for third place. In my estimation, the team should have been promised a handsome package to win the trophy instead of paying them huge bonuses at every stage.” Moses Foh-Amoaning bemoaned.
The four-time African champions have not won the trophy in 35 years and Avram Grant has been tasked to win the tournament after missing it out to Ivory Coast in Equatorial Guinea.
