Former Black Stars captain, C. K. Akunnor is optimistic of the team winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The Stars stared their campaign by defeating Uganda who frustrated them to a goalless draw in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Tamale Sports Stadium.
Deputy captain of the team, Andre Ayew converted a penalty on the 31st minutes to secure all three points for the team in De-Port Gentil.
After Egypt and Mali shared points, the Black Stars are currently leading the Group D table with three points and will play Mali on Saturday January 21st.
The Ghana Football Association has charged the team to win the trophy after coming close in the previous tournament but the Dream FC head coach believes the team can clinch the trophy.
“The chances for the team to win the trophy look very bright.” He told Asempa FM. “This is just the beginning but in the previous tournament the team start very slow and in Equatorial Guinea we lost our first match but we have started on a positive note by winning our opening match.
“We are now leading our group and it is plus to the team so let encourage the players so they do well for the country and gradually before we realize the team will be in the finals and when we get to the finals I believe that we can win the trophy.” He added.
