National Media Coordinator for the Ghana Deaf Sports Federation; Mr. Oti-Asirifi Mensah says, team Ghana is facing a lot of challenges in their preparation towards the 2017 World Deaflympics in Turkey.
In an interview with the Coordinator, he stressed that, they are left with only six days for the completion in turkey but they have no Money, Kits, Food, Visa and even where they are camping at the moment at the University of Ghana, is of no good.
According to Asirifi, the Ministry of Youth and Sports are the cause of their problems “we submitted our budget and notice of participation for this year to the MOYS on October 2016 for it to be featured in the national budget; it was only twenty-one days to the start of the tournament that the National Sports Authority wrote to us that, the Government says there is no money so we should go out and seek for sponsors.” He said.
Mr. Asirifii Mensah further said, Out of the 47 disciplines at the tournament, team Ghana is only participating in 7; that is, athletics, cycling, beach volleyball, Bowling, Orienteering, and Taekwondo with 39 athletes. “we are not participating in football because we were not able to pay our affiliation fee of 200 dollars.” He added.
