Former Black Stars player; Sam Foyoo Johnson has opined that, the Congolese were able to contain the Black Stars in Kumasi as a result of their tactically designed defensive game plan which was easily executed due to complacency on the part of Ghana.
Speaking on sportsnite yesterday, the former Hearts of Oak midfielder said, the Black Stars were over confident on the day; and with a possessive football strategy, they were not able to outwit the counter attacking game plan of the Congolese.
“how we [Ghana] started the game cost us; the Congolese relied on counter attacks so they were not pushing men forward and we [Ghana] made their plan worked out easily for them because, we were slow and complacent with the ball.”
Sam Foyoo also stated that, the way Ghanaians force players to go on retirement before their time is wrong and should not be tolerated.
“because of old age, all the experienced players are being chased out of the Black Stars. We have to know that, these same players helped the National team a lot. The senior players whom the upcoming players are supposed to learn from, have been axed from the Black Stars and its a big problem.” He added.
The Black Stars play Congo in the return leg of their World Cup Qualifier game today in Brazaville. The first leg ended 1-1 in Ghana.
