The chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA); Mr. Kudjoe Fiano, has stated that, Government is not funding this year’s edition of President Cup because of a scared sum of GH¢50,000 demanded by Kotoko and Hearts as an appearance fee.
Even though the competition is scheduled to honour the President of the land, it has become GHALCA’s sole responsibility to generate funds for the event in terms of sponsorship and organization. The trophy and the medals that will be given on the day are all costs GHALCA has to bear alone. “apart from UBA being the official headline sponsor, we are still talking to the likes of Voltic Ghana Limited and others to come on board”. Fiano said.
The Ashati Gold S. C CEO said, after agreeing on the demanded GH¢50,000 commitment fee by the participating teams, there will also be a good package for the winner and the runner-up based on the amount and the number of sponsors that will come on board to support the event.
Mr. Fiano pointed out that, to avoid any uncertainty, everything will be done in consultation with the participating clubs to aid transparency. “even appointment of the referee of the day will be a decision by both clubs, GHALCA and the Referees Appointment Committee to avoid complains on officiating”. He said.
According to Kudjoe Fiano, the event is on July 2; and the first time at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
