Vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has stated that Multichoice Ghana Limited, who are the broadcast rights holders of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), SuperSport International, has not given them the assurance for renewal after their contract with them came to an end last month.
The 2016/17 season will start on December 18th.
In an interview with Otec FM, George said, “The three-year contract between the GFA and SuperSport has expired, as whether they will renew or not I will not be in a position to say yes or no.
“But the contract might not be discussed out rightly after its expiration and in certain cases you will go into discussion with them after six months or one-year.
“Even before the season started we were in talks with them but if you ask me, what I will simply say is we have not gotten the green light from them, and as a company they want to look at the relationship and even as a FA the benefits both parties received or maybe is there any company out there who might have a juicy contract or offer more than what we’re currently in and at the end of the day we will choose what’s best for the club’s”. he added.
