The vice chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Mr. Alex Akumey has disclosed that, Kotoko has verbally confirmed their participation in the 2017 President’s Cup Match against Hearts of Oak on July 2 at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium.
According to media reports, Kotoko attempted to boycott the event initially, following disagreement on the proposed price money involved; but Alex has debunked those claims as the basis for Kotoko’s initial act; saying that, the price money involved is so huge that, the participating teams cannot reject. “both teams initially accepted to play but it’s now that whole-heartedly, Kotoko has openly confirmed to take part”. He said.
Mr. Akumey aso indicated that, following meeting of GHALCA, Sponsors and other Stakeholders, it has come to their notice that certain things need to be properly put in place to aid a successful event; as a result, the day of launching the event has been shift from the proposed Tuesday to Thursday where the price money involved will also be publicly announced.
The event which is organized annually by GHALCA and the Sports Ministry, will be played in a one-off format and this time around, at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
