Kotoko on Thursday officially unveiled their ten new signings ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League which starts on Saturday, February 11, 2017. New Head Coach, Croatian Zdravko Lugarusic, his Assistant, Godwin Ablordey and Team Manager, Shilla Alhassan were also introduced to the gathering which had the media and supporters of the club.
Also present for an official introduction was Head of the Medical Team, Dr. Michael Leat and his 10 members. The new players national U-17 goalie, Danlad Ibrahim, former Ashgold players, Awudu Nafiu and Yakubu Mohammed; Techiman City’s sensational midfielder, Baba Mahama; Medeama’s striker Abass Mohammed and attacker, Kwame Boahene.
The rest are former Aduana Stars’ dependable midfielder, Seth Opare and former Hearts of Lions’ players Isaac Quansah and Prince Acquah; and Hearts of Oak player, Ollenu Ashitey. Head of Legal Affairs, Lawyer Yaw Boafo explained the reason behind the unveiling of the new players at the Sports Hotel in Kumasi, saying that it formed part of management quest to improving professionalism at the club.
“We are unveiling the players as part of our move to bring some professionalism into the team. I want to tell you all that Kotoko won’t be the same under this management” he stressed. Lawyer Boafo said Management was bent on improving on the quality of the playing body and technical team hence the massive changes in those areas ahead of the season.
“Otumfuo Osei Tutu II before handing over the team to Dr. Kwame Kyei tasked him to make Kotoko strong. Management’s aim is to bring the club back to its former glory. We have strengthened the technical team and the playing body” he pointed out. “Management is satisfied with the quality of the players. This is a squad capable of winning the league” added the Lawyer.
Zdravko Lugarusic also expressed delight with joining the club. He said he would work to “To make the fans happy. I’ve the pleasure to come to such a big club like Kotoko and I hope we’ve to achieve what we’ve to achieve. We know what we what to achieve. We’ve to make our supporters happy and that is what we’re going to try to do”.
Danlad Ibrahim is currently in camp with the Black Starlets so missed the event. His teammates however took turns to address the gathering. They also shared their delight at the club and stated their readiness to contribute to the club’s success this season and beyond.
