Public Relations Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo believes goalkeepers trainer Naasamu Yakubu can be the head coach of the club but his national team duties won’t permit him to focus.
The Phobians are currently without a coach after the sudden resignation of their stop gag coach, Yaw Preko who exited the club last Friday.
The ex- Black Stars winger unexpectedly handed his resignation letter to the management of the club for personal reasons and has been accepted by the hierarchy of the Capital-based Club. The club will have to seek for a replacement before the GHALCA tourney starts.
Naasamu who has been with the club for some years is widely tipped to replace Yaw Preko but Opare Addo believes he will be a good replacement but his national team duties will not permit him to solely focus.
Speaking to Adom Sports, Opare said, “Yaw Preko’s resignation came from nowhere so the management will sit down and discuss how to get a new coach because the situation now is very challenging.
“As it stands we will try to get in an assistant coach so that the team can have smooth preseason and have perfect start next season.
“We have a goalkeeper’s trainer already but if it happens that the management wants Naasamu Yakubu to take the team for the preseason, I know he will take that challenge because he is professional coach but we shouldn’t forget that he has a national team assignment that in the shortest possible time they will go to Turkey before they play Egypt in Alexandria.”
Naasamu who was a close ally to Kenichi is also expected to walk away from the club.
Quizzed if they will be surprise to see Naasamu walk away from the club, he said, “In human institution we all work together and I don’t think the departure of Kenichi and Yaw Preko will influence Naasamu to leave the cub.
“Naasamu has not uttered he wants to leave the club so I will urge everybody not to discuss that because we want him to concentrate on what he is doing for the club.”
