Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Abdul Hakeem has revealed that former Chief Executive Officer of the club Samuel Opoku Nti blocked his move from Kotoko to Sunderland.
Hackeem was a member of the Kotoko Youth team that participated in the 2014 FIFA Youth Championship in Switzerland.
According to the Gold Stars midfielder, he was a target for many European clubs after the tournament in Switzerland but Opoku Nti blocked his chances of joining the club.
Speaking to Kickoff, he said, “Well…I can say that Opoku Nti’s administration neglected us [the Kotoko youth team] after the previous administration (Dr. K.K Sarpong).
“After our trip to Switzerland, some of us [players] at the Kotoko youth team had several offers from European clubs.
“But he [Opoku Nti] blocked the move because he said the transfer fees were too small.
“And my brother will you believe that English Premier League side Sunderland launched a bid to sign me but Mr. Opoku Nti rejected it’.
“I still love Asante Kotoko and am ready to return to the club”. He added.
