Alan Pardew confirmed this morning that Christian Benteke will undergo a medical today ahead of a move worth an initial £27m and though the striker struggled at Anfield to replicate the form that convinced Liverpool to pay Aston Villa £32.5m for him, the Palace boss reckons he can thrive in south London.
“He’s someone I know very, very well because I wanted to take him to Newcastle. I thought he’d be a fantastic fit for that club. He got the move to Liverpool and it hasn’t quite worked out.
“For us, we need to get him back to doing what he does best. His style of play, the way he feeds off crosses… he’s not our player yet but he’ll enjoy that with the wide players we have.”
