The Ghana Premier League action continues at the various stadia’s this weekend but all eyes are eager to witness the match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and their rivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday. All matches will be played on Saturday with the exception of Ghana’s version of El Classico.
We preview all the matches coming up this weekend.
ADUANA STARS v LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS
At Dormaa, Aduana Stars will host Liberty Professionals and it will be the battle of Yaya Mohammed who has already fined the back of the net 12 times whiles Liberty Professionals Latif Blessing has scored 10 goals already.
In the first round of the league, the Dormaa based club stunned Liberty Professionals by 3:2 at the Dansoman Sports Stadium. Liberty in the second round have not fined their rhythm in the league as compared to the first round.
Aduana lost in midweek to Dreams FC by 2:0. The defeat has pulled Aduana Stars to the 6th position with 31 points but will be hoping to take their home advantage to rediscover their form and put smiles in the faces of their supporters. Liberty also lost to Medeama SC by a lone goal to nothing and will be going to Dormaa hoping to produce some magic. Liberty after the loss find themselves at the 8th position with 26 points.
ASHGOLD v EBUSUA DWARFS
AshantiGold will be hosting rejuvenated Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs who humiliated Kumasi Asante Kotoko by 4:1 at their home grounds on Wednesday.
In the first round, Dwarfs drew with Ashgold under the auspices of Coach J. E. Sarpong. Both clubs have struggled from the start of the season especially Ashgold who won the league last season with Bashiru Hayford but due to the problems within the club, Hayford submitted a letter to go on three months leave but has still not return back to the club.
On the side of Dwarfs, the club sacked their experienced Coach due to his poor performance. The appointment of Prosper Nartey has brought in some energy and confidence to the team and have been able to maintain their home records since his appointment.
Ashgold drew with Bechem United in their midweek whiles Dwarfs were able to get all the three maximum points. Ashgold looks shaky but will be hoping secure all the points but Dwarfs who have discovered their form under Prosper Nartey will be hoping to continue their impressive run against Ashgold.
BEREKUM CHELSEA v New EDUBIASE
In Berekum, Berekum Chelsea play relegation threatened New Edubiase. Both clubs have not performed to expectation especially New Edubiase.
Chelsea lost to Accra Hearts of Oak by a goal to nothing at the Accra Sports Stadium in their midweek fixture. Edubiase on the other side drew with Sekondi Hasaacas at the Gyamfi Park but still see themselves at the bottom of the table.
Chelsea, after 20 league matches played have won only 8, drawing 2 and losing 10 whiles Edubiase have won 4, drawing 6 and losing 10. In the first round, Edubiase won by 2:1 against Chelsea.
Chelsea will be hoping to snatch all three points from Edubiase as they lock horn this weekend and will be counting on their veteran striker Saddick Adams who have already bunked eight goals.
HASAACAS v DREAMS FC
The Western Region will witness a thrilling game as Sekondi Hasaacas will host Dreams FC at the Essipong Sports Stadium.
Hasaacas will be without their head coach Yusif Basigi who has taken Black Queens to Germany for a friendly match against the German Women’s national team. Hasaacas have a good home records and will be hoping to take advantage of that to stun Dreams FC.
Dreams had a sweet victory over Hasaacas in the first round beating them by 2:1. The performance of Dreams has not been consistent but have been getting surprising victories. Against all odds, Dreams FC defeated Aduana Stars by 2:0 at Dawu in the midweek fixture with Michael Sarpong getting a brace.
Hasaacas with their supporters behind them will be hoping to protect their home records even without their head coach at the touchline and will be counting on the services of Eric Bekoe who have scored eight goals this season whiles Dreams will be hoping that their top scorer Lawson Bekui who have scored seven goals will find the back of the net to increase tally.
TECHIMAN CITY v INTER ALLIES
Techiman City will be welcoming Inter Allies to the Den. Both clubs have their own their problems to solve.
Inter Allies after parting ways with their head coach Herbert Addo have dropped to the relegation zone with 22 points occupying the 14th position but Jimmy Corbblah who took the mantle over from Herbert Addo is very eager to turn things around for the club.
Jimmy Corbblah had a good win against WAFA beating them by a goal to nothing at the Tema Sports Stadium in midweek and will be hoping to use that win as a huge motivator going to the Techiman.
Techiman City who also have a good home record will be hoping to uplift their performance after losing to Wa All Stars in their midweek fixtures played at Wa.
The defeat in Wa has pulled Techiman City to the 12th position with 23 points.
WA ALL STRAS v MEDEAMA SC
In Wa, Wa All Stars welcome Medeama SC who is Ghana sole representative in the CAF Confederation Cup Competition.
Wa All Stars have failed to maintain their spark and the momentum they had from the first round but they will be hoping to produce another stunning performance against Medeama SC after beating Techiman City by 2:0 at their home grounds.
Despite their inconsistent performance in the CAF Confederation Cup, Medeama SC play very well in the league. Medeama SC pipped Liberty Professionals by a lone goal to nothing curtesy Kwesi Donsu getting the only goal of the match and will be eager to score more to increase his nine goal tally.
With a bit of consistency on the part of both teams, it will be a thrilling game in Wa.
Wa All Stars are just leading Medeama SC with just two points on the league log.
WAFA v BECHEM UNITED
WAFA in Sogakope will welcome Bechem United. After losing to Inter Allies at Tema, WAFA will be hoping not to lose at their home grounds against Bechem United.
Bechem United humiliated WAFA by beating them 2:0 at Bechem in the first round but the performance of Bechem has not be consistent.
WAFA have really performed to expectation winning seven, drawing six and losing seven out of 20 matches played with 27 points occupying the 7 position whiles Becehm United have won only seven, drawn five and lost nine with 23 points at the 13th position.
With all odds, WAFA will be hoping to use their home based supports to make sure that they win this match.
KOTOKO v HEARTS OF OAK
On Sunday, all roads will lead to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the Porcupine Warriors host their bitter rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.
After being humiliated by Dwarfs at the Cape Coast, the team went straight to the training grounds to prepare ahead of the crunch encounter against their arch rivals. Kotoko will be hoping to produce a surprise results because the supporters can’t stand it if they lose at Kumasi.
Kotoko out of the blue came and shocked Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium by a lone goal to nothing with Soulama committing a blander mistake under the auspices of Kenichi Yatshuhatsi in the first round of the league.
The Warriors came back to Accra and beat Hearts of Oak to lift the President Cup on penalties. Despite all these painful defeat, the Phobian club seem to have fined their feet in the second round of the league.
Hearts are on top of the table with 37 points after pipping Berekum Chelsea by a lone goal to nothing in their midweek fixture and will be hoping that, this will serve them as a huge motivator going to Kumasi.
The Warriors have been in shambles in their last two matches played. Drawing with Bechem United, they traveled to Cape Coast where they were humiliated by 4:1 but will be hoping to rediscover from those painful results and produce some magic at their home grounds on Sunday but Kotoko are likely not to feature their deadly striker Dauda Mohammed.
Head coach of Hearts of Oak has vowed that they will come back to Accra with all the three maximum points because he knows Kotoko already before coming to Ghana.
