Match day 22 of the Ghana Premier league returns today, Wednesday July 27, with interesting pairings.
At the Accra Sports Stadium, league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak will look to stretch their lead at the top of the table as they play host to defending Premier League champions AshGold, who are struggling this season. The Obuasi-based side are 11th on the league log, just two points above Bechem United, who lie in 14th position and in the relegation zone. Hearts will come into this game full of confidence after their one-one draw with rivals Kotoko in Kumasi over the weekend.
In Bekwai, New Edubiase, who are languishing at the bottom of the league log with 18 points from 21 matches played so far, will play host to Kumasi Asante Kotoko whom they beat one goal to nil in the first round of this encounter in Kumasi. Kotoko will be looking for revenge and a turnaround in form as results have not been favourable for them this second round of the league. The Porcupine warriors are fourth on the table with 33 points, five points behind league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak.
Rejuvenated Ebusua Dwarfs will welcome Sogakope-based WAFA to the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast. The Cape Coast club has seen a new turn in form ever since new coach Prosper Nartey took charge. They have moved out of the relegation zone as they lie 13th, just a point above 14th- place Bechem United. WAFA on the other hand have not been bad this season. They are seventh on the table with 30 points.
Liberty Professionals are having a tough second round in the league as the Dansoman-based club have not won a single game in this round. They will have the opportunity to turn that around when they welcome Sekondi Hasaacas at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman. Liberty have dropped to ninth on the league table with 26 points. Sekondi Hasaacas’ victory over Dreams FC over the weekend moved them up the table to 12th position with 25 points.
At Dawu, Dreams FC will look to continue their impressive home form as they host Berekum Chelsea at the Dawu theatre of Dreams. C.K Akornor’s team has maintained a good form and is sixth on the league table with 32 points. Berekum Chelsea will be boosted by their weekend win over New Edubiase and they are eighth on the table with 29 points.
Other matches coming up are Bechem United playing host to Techiman City while Inter Allies will welcome second-placed team WA All Stars at the Tema Park.
