A passionate appeal has been made to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to come to the aid of Ghana Sports which is in dire financial straits at the moment.
Making the appeal in Accra last Monday, the Public Affairs Director of the National Sports Authority, Madam Frederica Davies, called on Pesident Akufo-Addo to organise a breakfast meeting involving all CEOs of corporate organizations to discuss how to fund Ghana Sports.
According to Madam Davies, “some CEOs have passion for sports so they can be encouraged to adopt any sporting association and fund it, while receiving certain tax exemptions and rebates for their companies”.
She called for an action plan now to salvage the remaining glory of Ghana sports or forget about sports altogether in the country. In an exclusive interview with the Graphic Sports, Madam Davies stated that her outfit needed a leader with a listening ear.
And such a leader must impact positively on all staff members to work in unison for the development of Ghana sports. She contended that the NSA did not need a politician but a business-oriented person with the requisite acumen to make the authority vibrant.
“The incoming Director General must have the President’s ear and possess the ability to influence politicians from all divides and the corporate world towards building a powerful sporting empire in the country”, she stated.
Madam Davies said the authority was nearly moribund and, therefore, needed a revolutionary to make it a better sporting entity.
“We need a marketer, who has the sponsorship drive to lobby corporate Ghana to come on board and help sports in the country”, she emphasised, but was of the belief that the intervention by the President would work wonders.
