After successfully completing his medical with the Serie A club, Barcelona’s Thomas Vermaelen has now finalized his season-long loan move to Roma.
The Belgium international has initially joined the Giallorossi on a temporary basis, although this deal does include the option of signing him permanently next summer.
Since joining the Blaugrana from Arsenal back in 2014, Vermaelen has been seriously hindered by persistent injury problems at the Camp Nou, meaning that he has managed to make just 11 La Liga appearances for the club in the process.
Barcelona’s official website confirmed the transfer on Monday, as Luciano Spalletti will now hope that the 30-year-old will be able to conquer his fitness issues, and subsequently cement a starting spot in next season’s starting XI.
It has been claimed that Vermaelen will cost the Lupi €2 million for the current season in loan fees, whilst his contract is believed to amount to around €3m for the year.
