Former Hearts of Oak midfielder, Amankwah Mireku has urged the Ghana Football Association to strip off the captain armband from Asamoah Gyan.
In some years gone by, the Black Stars captaincy became a major talking point. Some has called on the FA to strip off the captain armband from the UAE based player over some allegations made against him.
The Black Stars failed to break the 35 years trophy drought after finishing fourth in the just ended Africa Cup of Nations.
However, Amankwah believes Gyan does not have the leadership qualities to lead the country to win anything for the country.
“Asamoah Gyan’s time has run out and that is the truth.” He told Angel FM.
“Gyan is not the player we knew some years back but his name is still reigning. When we have him in the team it will help us all but it is time Dede Ayew takes over as the captain so that he can take the team forward.
“Five years from now Dede has to give us something new and from now on whether we like it or not Dede must take over.
“The country should give the captain armband to him and support him and I am urging the Black Stars management committee to take that decision.” He added.
