Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Thomas Kwesi Esso has urged the players of the club to uplift their performance when they are playing at home.
The performance of Accra Hearts of Oak in terms of playing away matches have been really good for them since the era of their former coach Kenichi Yatshuahatsi. The appointment of Sergio Traguil brought the club some trust to start winning home matches but the problem seems to be persisting. The latest home drawn game came when Hearts played Ashgold at the Accra Sports Stadium. After taking an early lead in the game, Ashgold fought to end the match in a drawn game.
The Portuguese tactician has played seven league matches and has drawn two matches at home against Aduana Stars and Ashgold, won three matches and has drawn two away. This seem to be a headache for the supporters because the team really play well but can’t replicate that same performance when playing at home.
“The league is not between Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko alone because we are playing against fifteen other clubs.” Esso told Asempa Sports in an interview.
“I am of the view that team’s like Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, Wa All Stars are also doing very well and Dreams FC was able to beat Berekum Chelsea by 4:0, this means that the league is not between Hearts of Oak and Kotoko alone but the extra fifteen clubs.
“In our game against Ashgold, it was a huge chance for us to extend our lead on the table. We were disappointed with the draw we had because we were eager to beat Ashgold.
Quizzed why the players can’t perform in their home matches, he said, “We have to ask the supporters why we can’t perform at home because it is the same pitch that we play on when we go to play away or are the supporters putting pressure on the players, and for me I don’t think so.
“What I have noticed is that when you come to the stadium, the supporters really supports the players which should give the players some confidence and energy but it is not happening but I will say that this is their home grounds and they uplift their performance when playing at home.
Despite the drawn game against the Obuasi based club, Hearts of Oak are still leading the league table with 39 points with only seven matches left.
