Editor of Kotoko Express, Jerome Otchere has disclosed the management appointed Zdravko Lugarusic because they needed a coach who can turn things around for the club.
Asante Kotoko will be looking forward to uplift their performance after failing to leave up to expectation which the led the management of the club to ask David Duncan to step aside as the head coach of the after losing to Aduana Stars in match-day six Dormaa in the 2015/16 season.
Michael Osei was given the nod as the interim coach of the club and led the club to the 5th position with 48 points.
The Porcupine Warriors will be hoping to rejuvenate their form under the Zdravko and Jerome believes he is the best person to turn things around for the club.
“The club did a lot of consultations and after several meetings we felt Zdravko can work with the club.” He told Asempa FM. “He has being in the country before and he has coached King Faisal and he joined Ashgold in the following season and with the kind of support Kotoko has we believe we can push him up there to achieve what is good for us.
“We have given him two years contract and what I am pleased about is that the management has told him to win domestic cups and help the club go to the Africa and we believe it is very realistic and the coach himself understands that.
“Kotoko is a big club and if you are a coach and come to the club and with all the necessary support available, if you fail to win domestic titles then you don’t fit to coach the club and he understand that principle. He has admitted that he know the pressure at the club and if he fails to achieve no one will tell him to go but he will rather leave.
“Otumfuo told Dr. Kyei to position the club where they can compete in Africa but what we normally forget is that before you can compete in Africa you have to do well domestically but I am convinced that he has the qualities and the ingredients he has, we believe he can push the club to where the supporters are expecting the club to be.
“The management met Michael Osei and has understand to be the assistant of the club. We did this because we needed a coach who can turn things around for the club and we believe Zdravko can do that and with what Dr. Kyei has started doing, it is an indication he know what he is doing.”
