We will not pay physical cash as winning bonus – Isaac Asiamah

Minister designate for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah has revealed they will not carry large amount of money to the camp of the Black Stars as winning bonus.

After the Black Stars exited from the 2014 World Cup in the group stage, the Black Stars demanded for the winning bonus after playing USA and Germany in their first two opening matches.

It was reported that the players boycotted training after ahead of their last match against Portugal. The NDC government then sent the Black Stars money through a chartered flight.

The new system will ensure that henceforth, players and officials of the Stars will no longer receive their bonuses in cash during tournaments but will be paid through their bank accounts with the team’s official partner, uniBank.

“The era of carrying large sums of money to competitions to pay bonuses is ended and will not happen again, not under my watch.

“We are going to have a stakeholder’s conference to take a decision on the bonus structure on all the national teams, including the other sporting disciplines. That decision will take place after this tournament, but for now this is what we’ve arrived at for AFCON 2017,” said Mr Asiamah.
